Trading on Linux Systems

Linux, Trading

I’d like to create an online community for traders who use *nix systems. These systems are great for all kinds of number crunching and data analysis. Simple shell scripts are great for processing historic price data for example. It’s a lot faster and easier than alternatives available in Windows.

One of the problems trading in a unix-like environment, is that most trading clients are written for Windows. A few are written in Java so they should run on a unix-based system, but most are Windows executables.

The remedy this, I’m working on is a modular trading platform that can connect to a variety of brokers. Using it will probably require an API trading account for most brokers, but it’s still better than nothing. I currently have an API demo trading account with Forex.com so that’s where I’m starting. Maybe once it’s farther along it can develop into an open source project where people can write connection modules for their own brokers and distribute them here on tradefreeordie.

I’ll keep you posted as the project develops.
